Effective Patient Consultations

This interactive workshop, with group discussions and activities, will explore consultation strategies that support safe, professional and person‑centred interactions.

Enhanced patient consultation skills are a foundation of pharmacy practice. With a focus on communication, shared decisionmaking and risk management, this session will explore ways to maximise patient engagement within diverse clinical contexts. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explore advanced communication skills that enhance shared decision-making and patient-centred care  
  • Optimise consultations for diverse patient groups and different clinical settings 
  • Incorporate dynamic risk identification and management within patient consultations .

Content / Topics:

  • Explore advanced communication strategies, including active listening and health coaching 
  • Supporting diverse needs, including cultural, communication and health literacy considerations 
  • Navigating risk or uncertainty within patient consultations 
  • Optimising consultation skills in practice. 

By attending this session, participants will explore techniques to optimise consultations and minimise risk, strengthening their ability to deliver effective and accountable clinical care. 

Mapped to GPhC standards and PSNI principles for use as part of your professional development portfolio.
